Adrian Enzastiga

Biography

Oh, hi! I didn’t see you there. My name is Adrian Antonio Enzastiga, and I am a playwright, poet, screenwriter from Omaha, Nebraska. I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of the IYWS team this year! I attended the camp in 2018 studying fiction and poetry, and it was a crucial step in developing the artist I am today. I then received my BA in Creative Writing at The University of Iowa, where I expanded my scope of study into theater, cinema, and screenwriting. However, after taking a playwriting class, I realized I have been a theater kid my whole life, and playwriting was my true calling. And now, I am part of the 2026 class of Iowa MFA Playwrights. I see my plays as sort of jukebox musicals of poetry. I write individual poems, then stitch them together into one semi-coherent story. I am excited to help fellow writers find their voices this summer! I also love to teach––I have taught middle-school playwriting workshops, and Theater History and Rhetoric at The University of Iowa. On the creative side, I write comedic magical realism plays about identity, grief, and cycles of systematic oppression. I believe Theater is a source of joy, community, and new ideas. I am inspired by fellow artists Tennessee Williams, Luis Valdez, and Jinkx Monsoon. My hobbies include: Pokemon Go, Dungeons & Dragons, Lego-building, and taking naps with my cat Annie.
